The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure

in "The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure!"

Have Luke and Bonnie learned their lesson? Perhaps. They spent the rest of the day sleeping and we had to practically drag them out of the house that evening for their walk. It was days before Bonnie stopped limping, and ever since that time she's responded immediately to recalls -- no matter how badly she's tempted by the sight of a trespassing squirrel. As for Luke, well... he's slipped his collar several times since and dashed merrily about the yard, but he hasn't run into the woods again. Yet.

The Moral of the Story....

...isn't Luke and Bonnie's lesson -- it's ours. It's our responsibility to persist until we teach Luke to obey a recall, and we have to remember that even Bonnie needs reinforcement. She obeys nine times out of ten, but it was that tenth time that nearly cost us all so dearly. Obedience training requires time and attention, and we had slacked off from that effort. Once again, Luke is pushing us in directions we hadn't planned to go, demanding more of us than we had anticipated.
